Monitoring
In order for the Regime to be effective, ongoing monitoring must be carried out.
In particular, because of the Regime's Adaptive Management approach, careful monitoring is required to assess whether the Regime is reaching its objectives.
In addition to compliance monitoring, the Regime requires three programs to monitor effects: water quality monitoring, aquatic health monitoring and economic health monitoring.
Each monitoring program will follow protocols, which will address sampling methods, the location, timing and frequency of sampling, and sampling analysis.
The Yukon Placer Secretariat will evaluate the results of the monitoring programs on an annual basis. If the results are significant, recommendations will be made to the regulators. This may result in changes to watershed authorizations, a reflection of the Regime's Adaptive Management approach.
